How Are the Blades Recycled?Updated a month ago

The vast majority of safety razor blades are coated in PTFE - commonly known by the brand name Teflon - which plays a vital role in reducing friction and protecting your skin from nicks and irritation. However, this coating also means they can’t be recycled in the same way as standard metals.

In the UK, recycling PTFE-coated blades varies depending on your local authority. Most curbside programmes won't accept them due to the material complexity. That said, many recycling centres do have the equipment needed to process them safely.

The best approach is to collect your used blades in a disposal tin / blade bank - a small container designed to hold blades securely until you're ready to dispose of them in bulk. Once your bank is full, take it to your nearest recycling centre and ask if they can accept Teflon-coated metals.

This process not only keeps your home tidy and safe, but ensures you’re disposing of blades responsibly.
